The Arc Children’s Centre in Singapore will be the Official Charity for next year’s SMBC Singapore Open at Sentosa Golf Club organisers announced today.

The Arc Children’s Centre, whose patron is Mrs Goh Chok Tong, provides a day centre for cancer stricken children and their siblings or other life-threatening illnesses and was the Official Charity when the prestigious tournament was last played in 2012.

World number one Jordan Spieth from the United States will be the star attraction at the US$1 million tournament which will be played from January 28 to 31. It is the 50th edition of the tournament which for the first time is being joint sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the Japan Golf Tour Organisation.

“We are extremely grateful to the organisers of the SMBC Singapore Open for nominating the Arc Children’s Centre in Singapore the event’s official charity,” said Ronita Paul, Co-Founder & Centre Manager, Arc Children’s Centre.

“In 2012 we enjoyed a wonderful collaboration and I am sure the 2016 edition of the tournament will be another great success for all parties concerned.”

A “Drive For Arc” charity initiative will see a number of activities implemented in the lead up to and during the week of the event specifically geared towards raising funds for the Arc Children’s Centre.

“We are delighted that Singapore’s national golf Open has been able to contribute to the Arc Children’s Centre. It is a privilege for everyone involved with the tournament to be able to help with such a noble cause,” said Patrick Feizal Joyce, Vice President, Golf, Lagardère Sports, the event promoter.

The Arc Children’s Centre care is also extended to children’s families, providing moral support to the parents as their child undergoes treatment. Working closely with the children’s healthcare team, the Centre strives to be part of the circle of care for every child in need.

The organization also aims to provide a sanctuary for the children’s continuing education, safety and bonding.
